The only thing characters would know is the exit from the book and that’s if you chose to have your character read the information on the inside before they checked it out. That’s so that players can play with both knowing and not knowing. As for advancing through the story, characters can get stuck or repeat a chapter over and over until they do what gets it to move along. Like in chapter one diving into the water. If they don’t they’d be stuck in that portion of the story. If the character is familiar with the book they might realize that moving forward is going into the water or it could be trial and error. Players are allowed to decide ahead of time what their character might know or assume. They can even play out that the character has experienced a certain section of the book multiple times. The longer they’ve been in game the more likely they are to understand how to keep the story going.

The characters aren’t always affected by sections of the book but in the epilogue they would experience it as in the prompt. It’s definitely a difference in how they normally would be. it’s to show how intense the books could possibly change a character.

Each book will be different! Some will put characters in the roles of the protagonist or villain. Sometimes characters will just see different parts or settings from books. When the mods post the events it will always be different but players can use open books however they’d like. For example if a book is listed as open players can do private logs where their character and others visit a setting or event.

We love the questions, it helps us smooth out any kinks!
